Thank You Voters of Troy & Clawson!

November 11, 2008

Dear Supporters,

On November 4, 2008, my run to become the next State Representative from the 41st District came to an end. I want to thank you for supporting me in my candidacy. From day one I was labeled the underdog but through hard work and determination I let my voice be heard. I learned so much during the entire election process. The months leading up to the big day I was giving speeches, going door-to-door, planting yard signs, perfecting my website, responding to emails from voters, and organizing volunteers. In all, we had about thirty volunteers. Many were Seaholm Football players that I coached this past season who were looking for extra credit in their Government classes. I could also count on my friends in the area, my parents, and the Scheidts. The last month there was not a day where we werent doing something. Here is the breakdown of the election results: Marty Knollenberg 57.46% Evan Ross Treharne 41.98% I was able to raise about $5,000. I used the money for yard signs and campaign literature. Because of the high cost of postage I was unable to send my literature through the mail. I relied on volunteers to pass it out door-to-door. My Opponent, on the other hand, had very deep pockets and in the end spent $112,258.96 on his campaign. With this money he was able to send out six individual mailings to all the constituents in Troy and Clawson. He also spent over $46,000 on TV attack ads saying I did not know anything about property taxes because I lived with my parents, and that special interest groups were controlling me. I asked him to take these attack ads off the air, but in the end he did not. Despite the loss, when one considers my budget being less than 5% of his, I think my campaign was a major success. We ran an honest, true grassroots campaign and a lot of people supported me with pride. Again, thank you for your support. The experience was long, tiring, and sometimes humbling, but in the end it was worth it. I learned so much about the election process that I will take with me as a Government teacher. Thank you for helping make this possible.

Most sincerely,

Evan Ross Treharne
